Study abroad trips expanded Mary鈥檚 global view. She traveled to Ireland for The Business of Sports, and experienced the performing and visual arts of London and Portugal as part of an arts and culture course.
As an intern at HG Media, Mary transformed and redesigned a static website into an interactive site. She went on to work with the account team at SapientNitro to support advertising and marketing projects for a major brand. And at the Babe Ruth League, Mary put her creative talents to work designing and implementing website graphics and other promotional activities.
鈥淭he Advertising major in the Norm Brodsky College of Business really appealed to me because I was very intrigued by the business side of advertising. At Rider, I was able to explore all aspects of the field and that helped me decide what route to take with my career,鈥 Mary said. 鈥淚 also was looking for a place where I could get involved in campus activities and have personal connect with other students, the faculty and staff. I found all those things at Rider.鈥
I鈥檓 very grateful to Rider for connecting me with SapientNitro and for equipping me with the knowledge and skills my job requires. All those classroom projects are now coming to life!
鈥淩ider鈥檚 Pathways to Marketing program held a case study contest for a SapientNitro client and my group won. Our prize was a six-month paid internship at the company, a worldwide digital agency. That experience gave me preview of life in an advertising agency,鈥 Mary said. 鈥淚 was actually hired by SapientNitro in October of my senior year. Knowing I had a full-time job waiting for me after graduation was very cool.鈥
鈥淩ider prepared me with more than classroom knowledge. Rider鈥檚 Leadership Development Program helped me hone my leadership and communication skills. Working with the Advertising and Marketing Society tied in well with my career goals. As vice president of the organization, I learned how to organize and manage a team. That kind of experience is really valuable in the real world.鈥
鈥淭he connections I built with Rider鈥檚 faculty were very important to my development,鈥 noted Mary, who is especially grateful for the support she received from Dr. Cynthia Newman, director of the Pathways program. 鈥淪he guided me in selecting my first real career and directed me on a path to success. Overall, Rider gave me a solid foundation with many marketable skills, which allowed me to find the exactly the job I wanted.鈥
