鈥淎 misanthrope is a hater of mankind. Our misanthrope, Alceste, simply wants everyone to be as perfect as he is,鈥 says Mills. 鈥淭he character of Alceste is fascinating, in part, because even though he recognizes his own flaws, he is unable to tolerate the shortcomings of others. While Alceste insists on a world without hypocrisy, he continues to lie to himself. This very human, very wonderful play examines how one should balance the truth with discretion. If a great comedy opens the curtain to life, than this play offers extraordinary illumination.鈥
Miriam Mills has directed more than 100 shows nationally, including productions of Extremities, The Pillowman, Rent and Sweet Charity. In 2009 she received the Kennedy Center ACTF Meritorious Directing award for excellence in directing for her production of The Pillowman. Her New York acting credits include leads in such productions as Romeo and Juliet, Hot鈥檒 Baltimore and Company.
