Student, faculty and athletic achievements from the past academic year were highlighted at the Opening Fall Convocation on August 29 in the Yvonne Theater.

Rider President Mordechai Rozanski touted numerous examples of student, faculty and athletic achievement form the past academic year during a presentation at the Opening Fall Convocation on Thursday, August 29, in the Yvonne Theater.
Those highlighted include award-winning student accomplishments, league championships by several varsity teams, and several prestigious appointments for faculty members.
Student Achievements
- Amanda Schott (Graduate Level Teacher Preparation, 鈥13) and Jami Centrella (Elementary Education and English 鈥13) selected as N.J. Distinguished Student Teachers for 2013. Fourth consecutive year that Rider graduates have been recognized as N.J. Distinguished Student Teachers.
- Clarissa Beck (Accounting, 鈥13) part of international team taking second place at the sixth annual institute of internal Auditors Case Competition in Orlando, Fla. Clarissa interned at KPMG this summer before entering the M.Acc. program.
- Carolina Sanchez (Music Theatre, 鈥13) cast in West Side Story on national tour in the part of Rosalia and understudy for Maria. Nearly 50 percent of music theatre majors cast this summer in regional productions across the country.
- The Model United Nations Team won Outstanding Delegation and Outstanding Position Paper at the Model United Nations for the fifth year in a row.
- Thirteen students inducted in the (NHSDA) Collegiate Chapter in February.
- Josephine Boyle (Global Studies, 鈥15) and Rachel Safer (Global Studies, 鈥15) at Summer School on Transitional Justice workshop at University of Ulster. Two of just three undergraduate students invited from universities around the world.
- Travis Maiuro (English and Cinema Studies, 鈥14) won 鈥渢hree bests鈥: student paper, student screenplay and student film at 2013 Film and Media Studies/Cinema Studies annual symposium. First Rider student to earn this distinction.
- Anna Lenti (Choral Conducting, 鈥13) and Drew Lusher (Music Education, 鈥14) selected as National Semifinalists in the American Choral Director鈥檚 Association Conducting Competition.
- The Rider News won 11 Collegiate Press Awards, including first place in the 鈥淕eneral Excellence鈥 category. Six staffers also received one or more first-place nods, including Katie Zeck (Elementary Education & Journalism, 鈥14), Joe Petrizzo (Journalism鈥13), Nicole Veenstra (Journalism, 鈥13), David Pavlak (Business Communication, 鈥13), Kristy Grinere (Journalism 鈥13), and Maggie Sarlo (Accounting,鈥13).
- Danyelle Johnson, (B.A. in Graphic Design and B.A. in Fine Arts, 鈥13) had internships with Seventeen magazine鈥檚 art director and with Arcade Publishing.
- Hannah Strong (Music, 鈥14) organized tree planting at WCC this year. As a result, WCC has been awarded the designation, 鈥淭ree Campus USA.鈥
- Twenty-four McNair Fellowship students (96 percent of all) made poster/oral presentations at the Society for Research in Child Development, New England Psychological Assoc., Assoc. for Psychological Science Convention, and Eastern Psychological Assoc.
- Howard Furman (Human Resource Management, 鈥15) named Northeast Province Collegian of the Year by the .
- Lisa Carrasquillo (Elementary Education/Psychology, 鈥12), Kristina Crossan, (Elementary Education/Psychology, 鈥13), and Alexandra Martini (Elementary Education, 鈥13) first Rider students doing international student teaching experience (at the American International School in Barcelona, Spain).
Athletics Achievements
- Baseball: and established new Rider record of 34 regular season wins.
- Men鈥檚 Basketball: Qualified for postseason play for fourth time in the last six years; .

- Anne Law (Chairperson, Psychology) named an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow for the 2013-14 academic year.
- Judith Fraivillig (Professor, Graduate Education) and Kathy Browne (Asst. Provost/Geological, Environmental and Marine Sciences) helped School of Education join the 100K in 10 partnership, an initiative to produce STEM teachers for our nation鈥檚 schools.
- Sherry Li (Assoc. Professor, Accounting) and Betsy Haywood-Sullivan (Assoc. Professor, Accounting) awarded the Lybrand Certificate of Merit for their 鈥淢ade in China: The Mengniu Phenomenon, A Study of One Chinese Firm鈥檚 Differentiation Strategy,鈥 published in January 2013 issue, Strategic Finance; also selected as one of best articles of the year.
- Vickie L. Weaver (Director, Public Safety) sworn in as president of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).

- Shawn Kildea (Asst. Professor II, Communication and Journalism) awarded fellowship by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. His film Children of Terror won first place in the professional division of the National Broadcasting Society annual conference.
- Jo Anna Chapin (Admin. Specialist, CCS) received the N.J. American Legion Campus Veterans Stewardship Award for organizing the 2013 小优视频 Veteran Career Fair and Military Expo.
- Al Holcomb (Chairperson, Music Education) and Frank Abrahams (Assoc. Dean, CCS) presented sessions at the Fourth International Symposiums on Assessment in Music in Taipei, Taiwan in April.
- Kelly Noonan (Professor, Finance and Economics) and Hope Corman (Professor, Finance and Economics) and Dr. Nancy E. Reichman, Dept. of Pediatrics at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, awarded $250,000 research grant from the University of Kentucky Center for Poverty Research.
