Jason Vodicka is interim dean in the СÓÅÊÓÆµ Westminster College of Media and Performing Arts and associate professor of music education at Westminster Choir College. In addition to his work with academic programs in the School of Communication, Media, and Performing Arts and Westminster Choir College, Dr. Vodicka provides leadership for the Offices of Performance and Production Management and Westminster Conservatory, the university’s community arts school. His higher education leadership experience includes serving as a program coordinator, department chair, associate dean, and senior associate dean.
A recognized scholar in choral music pedagogy, Dr. Vodicka has presented at state, regional, national, and international conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association for Music Education. His presentations have also been included at the Cultural Diversity in Music Education International Conference, the International Conference on Music Learning Theory, the International Conference on the Concepts and Practices of Choral Singing, and the International Society for Music Education World Conference.
Dr. Vodicka’s scholarship has appeared in publications including Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, The Oxford Handbook of Choral Pedagogy, Visions of Research in Music Education, and the Inside the Choral Rehearsal series. His work with the Palmer Research Group contributed to the development of a research-grounded Framework for Culturally Relevant and Responsive Music Teaching, which served as the foundation for a research grant from the National Association for Music Education.
In addition to his leadership at СÓÅÊÓÆµ, Dr. Vodicka serves as Artistic Director of the New Jersey MasterChorale, a community music ensemble based in Haddonfield, New Jersey. He is a frequent clinician and guest conductor and has conducted festival choirs throughout the United States, including in Connecticut, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. He currently serves as President-Elect of the New Jersey chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.
Dr. Vodicka began his career as a music educator in PreK–12 public schools, where he taught for nine years. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in music education from Westminster Choir College and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Georgia. In 2017, he was inducted into the Westminster Choir College Music Education Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the college and the field of music education.
