Professor Sumutka, a member of the Rider Community since 1977, teaches undergraduate and graduate taxation courses. He is the recipient of four teaching awards, including the New Jersey Society of CPAs 鈥淥utstanding Educator Award鈥 and the Lindback 鈥淒istinguished Teaching Award,鈥 and is a member of the Accounting Advisory Council Hall of Fame.

Prior to entering academia, Sumutka worked for the 鈥淏ig 8鈥 CPA firm, Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co., and pharmaceutical giant, Merck and Co., Inc. He operated his own CPA firm for 34 years.

The recipient of many research leaves and grants, Sumutka publishes primarily in the area of taxation and is the author/co-author of 38 articles and 1 book. His articles have appeared in The Journal of Financial Planning, The Journal of Accountancy, The Tax Adviser, Taxation for Accountants, The CPA Journal, and others.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of CPAs.
